All sales and all selling depend upon copy. With internet marketing, true, there are considerations of traffic (getting people to come and read your copy), and considerations of design (so that your copy has the right 'look' or the right 'flavor' to be accepted by the target customer). There are headlines (copy), bullets (copy), testimonial boxes (copy), guarantees (copy), and calls to action (more copy). Sure. But it's all ... copy.
That given, the process of selling online, mechanics of websites and traffic aside, consists of creating some copy, and by testing, throwing out the lousy copy and keeping the good copy. We know the copy is lousy when people don't buy our product. We know the copy is good when people do buy our product. Pretty simple, really.
